SMU proudly hosts its' own Study Abroad in Germany Program. SMU-in-Weimar is
a well-loved 5 week summer program that runs during the first summer session
of summer school.
The program is open to SMU and non-SMU students alike.
Students take up residence in the small, pastoral town of Weimar located in
the German state of Thuringia. Classes are held on the campus of Germany’s
famous art and architectural school – the Bauhaus Universität and students
are housed in single rooms in the Bauhaus University dorms. Group excursions
to Berlin (3 nights) and Munich (2 nights) along with several day trips are
included in tuition fees. Students are free travel on weekends when no SMU
sponsored travel has been scheduled.
Up to 7
credits can be earned by taking 2 courses. Courses offered include: German
(all levels),
CF: German Culture in Weimar and MUCI: Fundamentals of Instrumental
Conducting. There
is no language prerequisite.
SMU presidential scholars and dependents of SMU faculty and staff on tuition
remission have nearly all fees waived.
