SMU-in-India: Temerlin Advertising Institute
Ahmedabad, India
The Temerlin Advertising Institute --
in partnership with the Mudra Institute for Communications in Ahmedabad
(MICA) -- has created SMU’s first study abroad program in India. India is a
fascinating and culturally diverse country that is also emerging as one of
the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies. This program enables
students to immerse themselves in a dynamic marketplace that is attracting
an increasing number of global players in sectors ranging from fast food and
retailing to telecommunications and information technology.
Students take two courses for a total
of six semester hours of credit during SMU's second summer session, 2009.
These courses are open to both Advertising and non-Advertising majors but
admission is subject to the approval of the professor.
The program
will consist of three weeks of course work at the MICA campus and two weeks
of industry field trips and cultural immersion tours, including visits to
monuments such as the Taj Mahal.
SMU’s program partner, MICA, is
India’s premier academic institution in the field of communications
management. SMU’s partnership with MICA provides students with unique
opportunities to interact with their Indian peers in a residential campus
setting, and to tap into the institution’s network of distinguished faculty
and alumni. More information about MICA is available online at
http://www.mica-india.net
MICA is located on the outskirts of
India’s sixth-largest city, Ahmedabad, the commercial hub of the western
Indian state of Gujarat. Gujarat is the birthplace of the famous Indian
leader Mahatma Gandhi, who lived in an ashram on the banks of the Sabarmati
River in Ahmedabad from 1917 to 1930.
